Unless you live under a rock, you are aware of the disruptive work environment and the impact of the #MeToo movement. It seems as if every woman who I speak with has a story. A story about bad behavior. My first encounter with bad behavior was in college, when the coach of the men's swim team, who was my instructor, kissed my neck when we were practicing head hold releases in the swimming pool. Yuck!!!

New York State has taken a stand on eliminated sexual harassment in the workplace. Effective Oct. 9, 2018 every employee must have a sexual harassment policy, a complaint process, and provide interactive training for every employee. Every time I facilitate this training, I'm amazed at the confusion around harassment. There are two types of sexual harassment, quid pro quo and hostile work environment. Quid pro quo is easy to understand, it means trade, this for that. Hostile work environment is a bit trickier to understand. Is the bad behavior creating an uncomfortable work environment? Is the behavior welcomed or unwelcomed? Is flirting with a co-woker bad behavior? Does there need to be a pattern of bad behavior?
