The Department of State’s Office of Planning, Development, and Community Infrastructure (OPDCI) is now hiring Coastal Resources Specialists to expand its dedicated and dynamic team.?
Coastal Resources Specialist 1, Grade 18
Starting Salary: $60,069
Our people help to protect and restore the State’s natural and coastal resources, water quality, and the working waterfronts while protecting its natural resources for future generations.?We also conduct consistency review of federal activities proposed in the coastal area with the policies and purposes of the New York State Coastal Management Program, and provide technical assistance to other agencies, local governments, and other partners with respect to consistency review and applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
While the job title may sound technical, the day-to-day duties and activities include an over-arching human and community-based element that makes the job both a science and an art.?Coastal Resources Specialists worked with the city to Rochester to develop the ROC the Riverway initiative (https://www.cityofrochester.gov/roctheriverway/), rebuilt communities after Superstorm Sandy and Tropical Storms Irene and Lee by assisting with resiliency planning and evaluate how offshore wind projects interplay with state coastal policy. All this and more to protect the State’s natural and human resources and interests while addressing climate change.
