New York Need an Equitable Farm Bill

The Farm Bill is a federal law renewed every five years that governs our farm and food policy and it is set to expire September 2023. We now have an opportunity to reshape our food system through this legislation and build upon lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has continued to highlight the importance of local and regional food systems and supply chains as NYS recovers from the ongoing impacts of the pandemic.

To engage New York community food leaders, farmers, gardeners, land stewards, producers, & advocates in shaping the 2023 Farm Bill, Equity Advocates , Black Farmers United – New York State Inc. and Food for the Spirit co-led a months-long series of conversations and listening sessions. Together we heard from over 300 New Yorkers about how the 2023 Farm Bill can better support us in terms of land access, urban agriculture, climate change, nutrition, local and regional food systems, and more. If you live in New York, find out how to get involved in our campaign here and SIGN ON TO OUR POLICY PLATFORM TODAY.

We also urge you to sign on to the HEAL Food Alliance 's Farm Bill Letter TODAY. Join organizations from across the country in calling for a 2023 Farm Bill that:

  1. Secures Dignity and Fairness for Food and Farm Workers,
  2. Enables BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Producers to Thrive
  3. Invests in Communities, Not Corporations,
  4. Nourishes People, ensuring access to affordable food, and
  5. Meets the Urgency of Climate Change and Ensures the Survival of Ecosystems and our Planet.
