New York Connections
Team,
This week in New York City, I got to connect with several of our team and have one on one conversations. We call it “Exec Connect.” For a couple of days our employees can sign up for a one-on-one discussion with one of our executives. Wednesday I had great individual meetings with Thai Alvarez, Alex Cole, John Anderson, Kyle Trippany, Nadera Persuad, Chris Abbate, Cindy Manrique, Yordy Arana, Olivia Rousso, Dan Hurst and Max Koehler. The discussion continued at twenty one dinners around the area. My dinner was with Margarita Castro Pereira, Marianne Santarelli, Matt Simone, Lindsey Yingst and Ed Sheeran. We are working to have similar sessions in some other locations. This is a great way for us to meet emerging leaders and help spread our strategy to all levels in the company.
Yesterday morning, I toured the Taconic job at 525 W. 52nd Street, with John Giammarella and Marianne Santarelli. Our team led by Mike Fico, PX, with Gina Serrano, Proj. Admin, Don Gaughan, Sr. MEP PM, Anthony Giorgio, Super., Leo Marrano, Gen. Super, Ron McKenzie, Safety, Jarred Mihalik, Project Engineer and Eric Platt, Sr. PM, has achieved some remarkable progress over the last month, in spite of the weather, increased crane oversight regulation from the city and a very tight job site. Taconic is a 450,000 SF, 392 unit residential building with two towers (one 15, the other 23 stories) sitting on a two story podium with retail and amenity spaces on several floors. The job is one month ahead of schedule so far and is continuing toward the top. We began the concrete floor slabs in early December and they are now proceeding on a two day cycle. The superstructure is currently staged so a floor is being poured every day (the towers alternate slab pours each day).
We had over 60 Gilbane shareholders gathered here in New York to get an update on the company and in particular, to meet our management team in Mike Bohn’s group. Ryan Hutchins, Mike Brown, Bill Gilbane, III, and Greg Dunkle gave the group details on their strategies, projects, economy and people in their divisions. We will hold a similar session with the family later in the year on the balance of the company.
Stay safe,
McK
