New York City's cultural center begins to wake up.

Finally, after 5 months closed, museums and cultural institutions are beginning to reopen this week. I think it is a very important week for all of us living in this city, as well as for people who love visiting New York, because it is well known that it has always been a worldwide cultural center.

The big reopening are the following:

The Metropolitan Museum – August 29

It is undoubtedly a very special year for the museum, since it turns 150 years old.

On arrival, the museum will welcome you with two important installations:

The first one is an installation of Yoko Ono called DREAM TOGETHER which conveys a message of hope and union. DREAM TOGETHER is accompanied by four bronze sculptures by the artist Wangechi Matu called The NewOnes, will free us. Without a doubt, both installations lead us to reflect on how important it is to put fears aside and keep going.

Museum of Modern Art – August 27

As part of the opening of the new MoMA in October 2019, this museum inaugurated the great exhibition Sur moderno: Journeys of Abstraction -The Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Gift. This exhibition presents more than 100 works by renowned Latin American artists. It is an essential and, of course, must-see exhibition that will remain until mid-September.

Also, another great news which helps the city regain its cultural life is that the access to the museum will be free during the first thirty days following the opening.

Whitney Museum of American Art – September 3

After the interruption, the Whitney Museum of American Art continues to exhibit this year’s best exhibition: Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925-1945, which shows us a kind of cultural renaissance of Mexico in 1920, which not only had influence in Mexico but also in the United States. This is a historical exhibition due to the fact that this museum is usually focused on American artists.

In addition to these great museums, galleries are reopening too, such as Pace Gallery, David Zwirner, Ortuzar Projects and Gagosian, among others.

It is essential to remember that it is up to us to take care of others so that places can keep on opening, this by respecting security and health measures.

Without a doubt, New York City has begun to wake up and will continue to affirm itself as the global cultural center it is.
