New Years′s Resolutions? Or Anti-Goals?
Henrik Spandet
Say goodbye to stress, overwhelm, and burnout, and hello to greater productivity, success, and fulfillment. Experienced efficiency trainer with Amazon, Novo Nordisk, Mars, CP Kelco, Power Corporation and many more.
How successful were you so far with New Year′s resolutions?
Try Anti-Goals instead.
Anti-Goals can help you on the path to do what is important and make your life more fulfilling.
Because time is infinite. Time is the only true luxury.
It′s not only about leasure, weekends or vacations.
It′s about ”everyday”. Anything that is "everyday" is a significant percentage of your life.
Every minute you save by not doing undesirable activities is one precious minute you can spend doing something more meaningful or important.
Let us assume you are awake 16 hours. If 8 of those hours are work and 5 hours are basic maintenance, you are down to 3 hours you can spend doing something meaningful or important.
3 hours daily correspond to 45 days annually. This is where you need to prioritize ruthlessly.
If you are spending 15 minutes a day doing something painful, stupid, undesirable, or unproductive that corresponds to approximately 10% of those available 45 days annually.
Try Anti-Goals. Look at your life, find the most undesirable or parts of it. Or find activities taking too much of your time. Stop doing those things.
Here are some suggestions:
Stop reading emails all day long. Do focused work instead. Do not allow distractions.
Do you know how much distractions reduce your productivity?
Stop using your Instagram or Facebook profile. What is the real purpose of having them? Delete them or one of them.
Stop watching streaming which does not have an element of education or is really “worth watching”. How much time are you wasting daily on watching streaming?
Stop participating in meaningless meetings. Ask for a proper agenda with an expected outcome. As a minimum.
Stop piling up stuff you do not use. Throw away today. Clutter can drag you down and sap your energy.
Stop using your inbox as storage. Your inbox is not a task list (and start using a task list).
Stop doing non urgent or non-important activities. Or delegate them to someone else - or automate them.?
New, updated book.
My new book will soon be published. Since one of my clients is Amazon I am working with Amazon to make this happen and make them curate my book (why not.. they are happy customers). The core of the book is how to obtain a better balance of work and personal life, have more time and achieve more in life by using 4 effective building blocks. It is about achieving more by working smart and prioritizing using simple tools and rituals.
I had some of my key clients read my book in advance for comments and feed back. I received the following from Jennifer and Brian at CP Kelco. I have worked with more than 30 executives at CP Kelco in the past many years. This is what Jennifer and Brian sent to me as a foreword to the book:
"Henrik Spandet is an engaging trainer who asks the obvious and quite simple question: “Do you control your day or does your overflowing inbox control your day?”?In other words, is your day a long race of firefighting exercises or do you have control and a clear plan for what you need to accomplish? If you are not in full control of your day anymore, then Henrik can help you regain the control!
?At CP Kelco, the Innovation Management team engaged with Henrik in 2021 to improve our email handling, productivity and efficiency as some of us were drowning in emails and not all tasks got the proper attention. Henrik Spandet promised that by following his guidance on getting organized, each of us would gain 30 additional minutes every single day to spend at our leisure! Although skeptical, we embarked on the rather short training, starting with an introduction by Henrik, followed by one-on-ones or one-on-fews where our email, calendar and tasks were set up to give us the best utilization of Outlook, and then another session for actual implementation and working with the principles in practice. After some weeks the training was evaluated by a couple of follow-up sessions to ensure proper progress and to verify that the required improvements had taken place.
Now, one year later, we are still in control of our day and have gained 30 minutes or more which we can spend on strategic thinking, picking tasks from the task list or other interesting and rewarding work.
Get Organized is highly recommended if you want to control your day.”
Best regards,
Brian Rudolph, Director of Process Innovation at CP Kelco
