New Year’s Voice Resolutions
Have you thought about setting your new year’s resolutions on your voice improvement?
It’s not that resolutions do not work. It’s that you don’t have an accountability buddy.
There are 3 resolutions you can set and I’ll hold you accountable.
1. Resolve to experience the beauty of your voice.
Our voice is the window to our soul.
Our voice is a channel of expression of ideas, emotions and individual identity.
Our voice reflects our physical, mental and emotional state. The voice indicates what’s stuck in your physical body; what’s blocked in your mind; and what emotional baggage you are carrying.
Our voice, body, mind and emotions are connected and constantly correspond to each other. Any changes in our body, mind and emotions will result in changes in our voice.
There’s a saying, “When I look into your eyes, I see love.”
For the beauty of your voice, I want to say, “When I hear into your voice, I see your whole world.”
2. Resolve to breathe properly.
Breathing is the very measure of our life. Life enters us with our first inhalation and leaves us with our final exhalation. It is truly our life force. Yet it is so natural and automatic that most people take it for granted and have never given it a second thought.
This seemingly simple process is far more than a movement of air. It provides the oxygen needed by every cell of your body, manifests the natural flow of energy in your body, and is the key to balance, concentration and wisdom. Think about the practice of Yoga, Taichi, and Aikido: the emphasis on the role of breathing is never enough.
It is also in your breathing that you find the power of your voice. The more air you breathe in, the more powerful your voice will be, because after all your voice is the result of the vibration powered by the air going-out. The quality of your voice is determined by the quality of your breath.
3. Resolve to take care of your voice.
Most of my clients had felt strain on their voices at the end of the day before they started working with me.
Most people never knew that they could speak for long hours without ever straining their voices.
As you get old, if you don’t care for your voice, your delicate vocal cords would be wear and tear.
To prevent that from happening, the best way is to project your voice properly and you’ll never need to talk in whisper for fear of losing your voice.
To take care of your voice also requires you not to shout. Shouting is the fastest approach to destroy your voice.
Lastly, drink more water instead of coffee. Coffee will not only not keep you awake, but also make it difficult for you to project your voice when you are dehydrated.
