New Year's Revolution

We tend to think of new resolutions like a Revolution - something that happens quite suddenly with lots of energy. It's not!
Any successful Revolution takes years to build up and reach a tipping point. Here are 3 key behaviours to make our 2018 Revolutions stick and succeed!
- Clarity
- Repetition
- Resilience
Clarity about where you're going and what that looks like. I call it WHAT + WHY + HOW.
What is your Big Picture and purpose? Why does it bring you value - if you're not clear on your motivation, you'll never stick to your New Year's Revolution! The 'How' means defining the behaviours you need to get there and putting it into practical actions.
Repetition - Gary Player, one of the world's best golfers in the 80's, said 'The more I practice, the luckier I get'! This is something I work with my clients constantly. Repetition is boring and most people today like change, doing something new and interesting. Drilling down and repeating an action is not high on the 'interesting' list! It took Jeff Bezos 23 years of drilling the same message about being 'Customer Obsessed' & putting innovation before the quarterly results to get to be NO. 1 on the Forbes list.

Resilience - Grit is one of the main qualities of people who achieve success (Angela Lee Duckworth gives a super TED talk on her findings). Developing Grit and picking yourself up when you fail is critical. No significant change comes without dips and failures, without it not going fast enough or feeling like you're not succeeding like you'd wish. The key is to recognise when you're getting off course or feeling too de-motivated to try again. Then take a breath, re-commit and get back on the horse. It only requires one small step.

Most of all let's Celebrate! Celebrate the small wins, the day to day (you did it one day more than you would have done it!) and celebrate the milestones. Life is a celebration, we just need to look for them.
I wish you all a great year ahead of changes and the persistance it takes to achieve them! May we all soar to our next level!
