New Years Resolutions Made Me Fat & Tired
I hate seeing New Year’s Resolutions lists at the end of the year.
Especially those claiming proprietary “new” health and fitness “secrets”.
The truth is, there are no secrets. And New Years Resolutions rarely work.
I know there are no secrets, because every January I used to start a new exercise program or a new diet. By March each year I got a little fatter, a little more tired, and I felt a little (maybe a lot) more crappy.
The worst part was, I got very frustrated.
Year after year I kept trying new and different ways of being healthy. Eventually I got sick and tired of chasing health “secrets” and the “one weird trick” and “super foods” and “research-backed supplements”.
After all, where did they get me? I gained 50 lbs of fat. Every morning I woke up feeling exhausted. Everything was too complex. Nothing was working. Everybody was getting results except me.
Finally one day I woke up fat and tired. I said “fuck it”.
I decided to completely start over. I decided to focus on the basics and run my body like I ran my business. Nutrition became my new Accounting. Exercise became my new Expenditures. Health became my new Profit. Fat became my new Loss.
Maybe that sounds a little corny or too simplistic. I can definitely tell you it wasn’t easy at first.
To run my body like my business, I focused on mastering the fundamentals. I created and tracked KPIs. I strove to hit my weekly targets and monthly quotas. I created a Board of Advisors (coaches in nutrition, fitness, and habits).
The results? I “broke even” within 90 days. My weight gain stopped increasing and slowly began to reverse. My constant fatigue began to dissipate and I began to feel a more energetic.
In less than 3 months I started getting compliments at home from my kids and at work from my colleagues. In 6 months I lost over 25 lbs of fat. I was able to compete in a mini-triathlon after 12 months.
Business colleagues began asking me for health and fitness advice based on my methods and results. Of course not everyone took my advice. But those that did got good results (you can see for yourself here). Helping my friends become healthier and stronger leader leaders was the genesis of The Healthy Executive.
But you should also know that I’m a very average guy. My genetics are like everybody else’s. I get fat just by looking at food and don’t gain muscle easily. Many of you know my story. I was fat. I got fit. I learned simple ways how to stay lean and fit. I’ve written about this here, here, here, and here.
My point here is simple: If I can lose weight and get strong while running a full-time business, you can too.
Which brings us back to 2019.
If you are tired of “new” health and fitness “secrets” that don’t work, maybe I can help. My methods are simple, business-like, and get results.
Give me a call and I’ll explain how.
