New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions

As Catholics, we want to have an ongoing conversion to Christ. Although “New Year’s” is a secular holiday, it’s as good a day as any to begin again and renew our devotion to God. Here are 3 potential ideas to help you spiritually grow in 2024:

?

1. Daily spiritual reading

Spiritual reading both inspires us to become saints while also teaching us more about God. Whether from the Bible or spiritual classics, we begin to meditate more on Christ in our lives.

?

This year, try reading a small section from a spiritual book each day. Here are some recommended classics:

2. Examine your conscience every night

Examining our conscience is a quick, yet transformative habit to cultivate.

This means taking time to reflect on your thoughts, attitudes, and actions. Then, identify areas where you need amending and ask for God's forgiveness.

Many saints even recommend making an examination of conscience every day, usually before bedtime. It can be a simple 5-minute reflection on the day. Here are some steps for a quick, nightly examination:

  1. Begin with an awareness of God's presence.
  2. Ask God for the grace to examine yourself well.
  3. Give thanks for the day's blessings.
  4. Examine your day. What went well? What did not go well? How was God acting in your life?
  5. Ask for forgiveness for your shortcomings.
  6. Resolve to change - how can God specifically help you improve tomorrow?

3. Go to adoration more often

St. Padre Pio wrote,

"A thousand years of enjoying human glory is not worth even an hour spent sweetly communing with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament."

In adoration, we spend time with Jesus fully present in the Eucharist. Does your local parish offer adoration? Could you find a regular hour, even once a week, to spend with Jesus?

Committing to spending time with God each week in adoration will transform your life and help bring you peace.

When we think of the world of Paul and compare it to our own, there are some striking similarities—chiefly, they are both ages that do not know Jesus but need him more than ever. Therefore, as we set out like Paul to preach Light in a darkened world, let us pay close attention to how he chose to lead his peers and to answer the call to holiness.

good morning this year is a important year due to what can happen in our elections in this country! if we do not focus what happened back in 2020 then we have failed to realize what can happen in our country for us families and grandchildren! we have to make a effort to pray as many rosaries daily - attend mass daily - adoration and fasting! IF we don’t do our part to make real changes - we will be accountable because WE KNOW BETTER! SO START as soon as possible- daily many rosaries- attend mass - adoration physical or by you tube ! confession at least once a month and especially mass! 2024 is critical! STOP EVIL NOW

For anyone who struggles with a New Year’s resolution, try a theme for a season…such as the spring of prayer, or the summer of the Mass. These are often more doable than a huge one-year goal
