New Years Resolution Maker & Breaker

Resolutions are nearly as synonymous with the change of a year as they are to them failing. Coincidence?

Absolutely not.

Resolutions typically stem from a pattern of comfortable misbehavior (e.g., gluttony, laziness), and the perception that an outside source (NYE) is the necessary trigger to correct that.

Where does the behavior stem from and therefore the actual change need to occur though?

On the inside.

As long as that comfortable pattern of misbehavior, that got you seeking a resolution in the first place, still exists on the inside, that becomes a desired escape when the new high road gets too challenging. An outside shift alone will only get you so far.. hence, the inevitable fail.

News flash: consuming toxins isn't a reward!!

Treating yourself the way you deserve to be treated involves things that level you up, think "spa day". Taking action with actual mindful self-love builds habits that grow more self-love.


When it comes to life transformations, one key component is your mindset. How are you talking to yourself?

For example, let's talk body image.

When you associate shame with your body, make resolutions to change it because you hate the way you look/feel, you are centering your energy on negativity.

What you focus on, you attract more of.

A negative mindset will always attract more negative things, and eventually giving up on your resolution becomes one of those things. You stop striving for better because everything seems miserable regardless.

On the other hand, when you accept your current point A (however that may look) with nurturing love and grateful acceptance while being your own inner cheerleader, you shift to focus on all the good you're gaining. Tell yourself, "this is what baddies do, and you're killin' it!" Answer yourself, "hell yeah, I am! Let's get it!"

Let's help create that shift with the first homework of the year:

  1. Stop hating the hole you've gotten yourself into, your body has enabled you to do a lot of things regardless of how it looks currently. Be grateful, PERIOD.
  2. Release negative thoughts as quickly as they show up. Hit Block on 'em. That trash isn't helping.
  3. Love your current Point A because it's going to make your Point B success stand out more. No shame.
  4. Acknowledge and celebrate each small improvement. Be present and focus on baby steps.
  5. Give yourself grace. Starting anything new is challenging, keep the vibe positive and be kind to yourself.
