New Year'Air

New Year's Air

Till Eulenspiegel hops like a bird.

My mother ambles.

Pigeons hover far and near.

A nurse holds a Meyra for lack of a new year's love.

In Saint Petersburg there is a ball at the Hermitage tonight.

In New York taxi drivers' delight.

In Vienna the Pummerin sounding.

In Paris Eiffel Tower through the firmament.

In London a commonwealth cocktail.

In Madrid temperatures are much like Bethlehem cool and mild.

In Kyiv what were once rockets overhead occupy a reality tv presence where earlier children stayed up until midnight watching the stars and fireworks above.

In Prague doors open wide to Professor Mucha's cathedral.

In Budapest glass is shattered with too much drink.

In Cracow there are ten popes a leaping.

In Ljubljana the Dvor is comes alight with dance, the Ljubljanica teems with youth.

In Berlin the fire department has fallen out with the absence of the SSG, or the Socialist Scholz Government. In other words, caution as the new year approaches.

In San Francisco the sea lions are not yet asleep.

In Chicago ice is cheap.

In Dallas facemasking is all the rage.

In Salzburg music applies golden threads with violins of italian make.

In Munich the Prinz Regententheater is hosting a special night.

In Florida fireworks rise on high in red, white and blue.

In Washington, D.C. they do, too.

In Jerusalem hoarfrost or snow making the Virgin cold.

In Vilnius the square is peopled like armies from the Czar's time.

What's to wish for? A Johann Strauss this year 2025.

Maraschino, does not rhyme with presidential chinos; peach nectar sublime, something perhaps from Princess Anne's time; a dash of Kattus Sekt from from 1890; and lastly a dash of cognac to shine brightly.

Welcome, New Year 2025! We with bated breath look on kingdoms here and nigh. 2025 a year of peace from Sinai?

If only generals followed New Year's Orders from Saint Sylvester they could say over and done except for the music of Strauss and son.

In Naples pastries are many; Maestro Muti now in Vienna will hopefully rouse us from our New Year's Eve slumber!
