New Year ... New You?

New Year ... New You?

Everyone loves to start the new year off with change, but why? Just because we turn the calendar from December 31st to January 1st we become this new person? Most make new year resolutions about fixing something that they feel is broken or needs improvement, but why?

We are taught to believe from a very young age that we should spend our time improving ourselves and working on whatever we are not good at. We are taught to focus on our weaknesses, but why are we not taught to focus on our strengths?

Yes, if you need to loose weight to become more healthy, then by all means loose weight, but how you loose your weight and keep off your weight will require you to leverage your strengths and enlist help from others to overcome your weaknesses. Whether it is a trainer, a coach, a meal prep service or just asking friends and family to help keep you on track. Achieving your goals will require the help of others to overcome any weaknesses you might have. Outsource what is holding you back.

A few years ago I read the book Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath and discovered that I was not focusing on sharpening my true talents, but instead I was wasting time trying to fix my weaknesses. By spending my precious energy on always fixing things, I was letting myself fall into a cycle of never improving and therefore not achieving the results that I was looking for.

What are your talents? What are you truly great at? Align your passion and talents to achieve your goals and let go of all of the weaknesses that are holding you back.
