A New Year of Unlimited Possibilities

As we welcome 2023, I am grateful for valuable partnerships and energized by the opportunity we have to create unlimited possibilities for all.

2022 was a pivotal year for Comcast as we fulfilled our $100 million commitment to advance social justice and equality. Through this commitment, we marked key milestones toward achieving digital equity, which the late Congressman John Lewis called the civil rights issue of the 21st century.

Our work is far from done and we have accelerated our efforts through Project UP, our 10-year, $1 billion initiative to reach millions of people through programs and community partnerships that connect them to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators. By working in cities across the country, we are redefining what it means to address systemic challenges in our society.

I’ve had the honor to see this work unfold from coast to coast. I’ve watched Project UP’s focus on broadband connectivity and adoption, digital skills and entrepreneurship become realized through our investments in local organizations that are helping to create economic mobility for millions. ???????????????????

  • Thanks to our nationwide digital navigator network, we are breaking down barriers to digital literacy by helping more people connect to and adopt broadband Internet.
  • Through NBCU Academy and its 45 academic partners, we’re creating an inclusive culture for media and technology and training the next generation of content creators with the skillsets that will catalyze their success.
  • By 2030, an estimated nine out of 10 jobs will require digital skills but nearly one-third of U.S. workers lack basic digital skills – overwhelmingly Americans earning lower incomes and communities of color. That’s why we’re investing in partners that work in communities to provide equitable access to quality training and education designed to meet the current and future demand of our increasingly digital economy.
  • And, through Comcast RISE, we’ve seen 13,000 entrepreneurs sustain and grow their small businesses with our marketing, technology and capital grants.

This work is urgent and there is no single-track solution to closing the digital divide. We do know, however, that by partnering with trusted and committed community leaders we are seeing real progress.

In all the places I visited last year, from Boston to Chicago to Tacoma, I was able to see the tangible result of our work in communities. Whether through a student having the technology needed to succeed in class; or a jobseeker being able to develop new skills; or a senior having the ability to connect virtually with loved ones – we are changing lives for the better.

Some of our most powerful allies are those within our own company who are dedicating their time and offering their voice and expertise to advance equity through Team UP, our national employee volunteer program. Many of our employees have stepped forward to help build communities that are more reflective of the world we want it to be, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Through Project UP, Team UP, community leaders and partners, including members of our DE&I Advisory Council, I’m excited to make even greater impact in the year ahead. I have no doubt that through our collective partnership we will achieve our goal of closing the digital divide and create a more equitable future for generations to come.

May 2023 bring us all continued unity, growth and unlimited possibilities.?
