New Year, New Standards, New Technology
As we start 2024, there has been a renewed sense of enthusiasm among many stakeholders in the Advanced Air Mobility community. The FAA continues to build the blueprint for this new era of aviation, and the industry as a whole eagerly anticipates each pivotal milestone. On the new standards front, the ASTM F38 Committee approved the Standard Specification for Performance for Weather Information Reports, Data Interfaces, and Weather Information Providers (WIPs) framework and as of January 9th, it has now been published. The weather standard introduces measures to prioritize and increase the collection of real-time weather data within the low-altitude airspace from the surface to 5,000 feet, reducing the risk and uncertainty for UAS operations. The FAA will conduct research, testing, and use case demonstrations to develop the Advisory Circular guidance.
On the technology front, one of the largest gatherings of emerging technologies in one place, the Consumer Electronics Expo (CES), occurred earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2024 CES Exhibits featured the most innovative and advanced offerings in emerging technologies, providing a glimpse into the forefront of robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital technology. Supernal eVTOL made a remarkable impression, showcasing their cutting-edge S-A2 electric vertical takeoff and landing technology, flight simulator and control room in a full vertiport buildout. TruWeather participated in CES as a contributing member of a collaborative ecosystem, offering weather support to the operations within the control room of the vertiport exhibit.
In addition to Supernal, we are making strides in the technology realm with our partners at AeroX. Take a moment to explore the executive summary of their statewide North Carolina Advanced Air Mobility Weather Study. AeroXs report encompasses a wealth of findings, data, and operator insights, and plans to begin the next study phase this year to showcase the efficacy of utilizing new technology for low-altitude weather data collection. Additionally, dont miss the Dawn of Autonomy Podcast featuring host Dawn Zoldi, AeroX President, Basil Yap, and TruWeather Director of Weather Strategy and Innovation, Dr. Chris Zarzar, as they share their insights on the study. Learn more about AeroX in our partner spotlight of the month.
