New Year, Same Old Story?
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
cir. 1947 Dylan Thomas
Some people say that a new year is a new beginning. Other people say that it is a new chance to right the wrongs of last year. And, still others would suggest that a new year somehow "re-starts the clock" and gives everyone a blank slate of which to start. Why do we place these time limitations on our success . . . . ?
Honestly, if you are waiting for a change in dates to effect your prosperous outcomes then perhaps time has more influence on real world economics than is currently communicated.
It has been stated that profit is found in the place of economic fluctuations. 2023 seems to be a year full of fluctuations and opportunities. Where will we see new innovation, pathways to new ways of doing business, or even a new "uber-trend"?
One thing remains true amongst this new sea of change, people still need to eat! Are we as an industry thinking forward enough to understand the needs of the "new" customer, or are waiting to react? For instance: robot delivery service, digital transactions at restaurants, new/old food trends on the innovation chart . . . are the recipes from the 70's or 80's going to see a resurgence? Maybe.
Overall, we should not see the challenges of last year (or the year prior!) as a hindrance on our future success. Instead, let's figure out how to do business better, engage with our customers on a new level, or (perhaps) invent something new that will completely transform the industry. Your choice.
