I know some of you might think it is too late, but then experience makes one wiser and also the joke going around on the internet which warned the regular walkers of the expected rush during the first week of the new year made me wary of resolving anything in the first two weeks :)
I as most have made a lot of new year resolutions at the start of the year, made it public and questioned/laughed at when the resolutions would still be around on a wall....
But should that stop one from making new year resolutions? It is easier not to make resolutions and then there is nothing to break. I think the new year gives you the chance to reset things...
Resolution number one is to read one book every week, with an overall target of 100 in 2018. Being in academics that is an easy target but then it will be books which not directly from our usual reading list, it will have a generous dose of self-help kind of books, but also try to read-up more diverse books. As one of my earlier Prof would ask what are you reading and then put the condition it has to be other than marketing ...
Some books which I have starting reading in the last three weeks,
Principles: Life & Work by Ray Dalio
Listening for well-being by Arun Maira
Art of Work by Jeff Goins
Designing your life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans
I will use the template offered by Bill & Dave in Designing your life to articulate the remaining resolutions,
Maybe in a way, the number one resolution should have been getting your resolutions ready before 2019...
