New Year, New'ish Me

The start of a new year is always a time for reflection, for looking back at the year that has passed and setting our sights on the year ahead. It's a time to assess where we are in our lives and where we want to be and to set goals and resolutions to help us get there.
This can be tricky as we may not have reached our plans in 2022. We can get down on ourselves or be motivated in the new year. If y'all are like me, I was a little of both and set my intentions going into January with enthusiasm and gusto. And if I'm honest, I started off pretty good the first few days, but then I was a little shaky. As I go into February, I'm resetting again, giving myself grace by saying it is okay.?
It is no secret that achieving goals requires motivation. This is something that everyone knows, but not everyone can muster up the motivation necessary to get themselves to take action toward their goals. There are several ways to become motivated, which often vary from person to person. But there are some key things that you can do to increase your motivation and get yourself moving closer toward your goals.
One of the most important things you can do is to have a clear understanding of what your goals are. It is much easier to be motivated if you are 100% clear on your goal. Make sure that your goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. This will help you to create a clearer roadmap to follow and make it more likely that you will stay motivated throughout the process.
It can also be helpful to set yourself up for success by breaking your goals down into smaller, more manageable pieces. It can be tough to get started when you have a seemingly impossible goal. But if you break it down into smaller steps, you will find it much easier to take action and move closer to your goal. I also take my dissected goal and tie each step to a reason and purpose. Understanding how each step contributes to the larger goals increases my sense of motivation and momentum.
For instance, I have been training for a powerlifting competition. The three lifts are bench press, squats, and deadlifts. But as my trainer writes out my workouts, he includes yoga. I had to understand that yoga creates muscle tone and endurance through slow-moving poses as you hold positions for extended periods. This helps during my powerlifting sessions.?

So as we go into February, if you would like to reset, please do so. Find your motivation, break down your goals, and make each step make sense to you.?
