A New Year Message from Risk Group Founder

Happy New Year to Risk Group Contributors, Subscribers, Followers, Readers, Listeners, Viewers and Supporters!

As we begin 2017, what seems strikingly different is that we the humans are no longer confined to what nature must offer. The advances in science and technology are moving us towards having the capability to create both living as well as non-living things. While what nature has given is still the foundation to our natural biological human ecosystem; we, the humans are now able to build on this nature-given foundation and create a man-made, synthetic bio-ecosystem of our desire and definition.

In the coming years, we will be able to design and construct any cell, any organism or any biological species we want, with a growing selection of genome from human or non-human.

The time is almost here where the ability to create or manipulate “life” seems restricted only by the imagination as we may soon be able to build any cell, organism or biological species up from scratch.

It is said that there’s no such thing as an “artificial gene” and that what matters to a gene is DNA sequence and not how one makes that sequence or sources that sequence. It is this human ability to synthesize DNA sequences from living species and artificial genomes that is “completely transforming” much of everything. Imagine the possibility when a computer or a machine with artificial intelligence develops the capability to synthesize the DNA sequences. What will be the implications?

There is no doubt that the “industrial age” is slowly but steadily ending to be gradually replaced by an era of “biological engineering”. In the coming years, nations are going to transition from an economy that relied on “machines” to the one that relies on “biology.” It is therefore important for each one of us to understand and evaluate the changing nature of “economy” and its impact on individuals and entities across respective nations: its government, industries, organizations, academia (NGIOA).

Each one of us across nations currently stands on the verge of the most turbulent and transformative periods in all of human history.

As Information Technology, Genetics, Nanotechnology, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Systems Engineering, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence merge and converge to make the once unachievable imagination possible, it is not only human and machine (artificial) intelligence that will merge and create unthinkable possibilities, the likes of molecular manufacturing and synthetic biology will also bring earth shattering potential to build virtually any physical and biological item quickly and inexpensively directly from easily available pure information. This will create complex security risks and challenges for everyone-- individuals and entities across NGIOA.

Time is now to talk about Security Risks!

We at Risk Group believe that Risk Management, Security and Peace walk together hand in hand. Though Security is related to management of threats and Peace to the management of conflict, Risk Management is related to management of threats as well as management of conflict, and it is not possible to conceive any one of the three without the existence of the other two. All three concepts feed into each other. We believe that the security we build for ourselves is precarious and uncertain until it is secured for everyone across nations. Tradition becomes our Security, so if we build a culture of managing risks effectively it will lead us to Security and Security will lead us to Peace.

It’s important to recognize the special symbolism “Global Peace through Risk Management” brings with it.

A new year, a time of new beginnings and fresh starts, also comes with it a time of reflection and responsibilities. Whether your resolutions consist of securing your life, the lives of your loved ones or the whole world, managing risks will be the first step we all will need to take in this increasingly complex world. Join me in our efforts to achieve “Global Peace through Risk Management”. Support us in any way you can!

We feel humbled by the trust that has been bestowed on us. As we continue our journey and expand our presence, with new ideas, innovations, initiatives, participation, collaboration and following, we firmly believe that it is possible to address complex big problems by collective participation of each individual and entity across NGIOA. There are no problems too big to solve!

Each one of us has a role to play in managing the complex independent and interdependent risks facing nations.

As we embark on our 2017 journey, we know that our work has only just began. On behalf of Risk Group, it has been my sincere honor and pleasure to be of service to you in 2016. We appreciate your trust and hope to continue our association for years to come.

Wishing you a world of Security and Peace in 2017!

Sincerely

One of the ways NGIOA can begin the risk management tradition/process is by subscribing to the notion of equity. The equity notion dictates that no entity can have a privilege that is not concurrently/simultaneously accorded to an individual and all the rest in equal amounts. Thus if a government says it can arrest anyone on suspicion of any charge, a citizen also has the same right and privilege to do like wise to all other entities including that government. It is only through such strict reciprocity could risk be managed.
