New year, new me in the new lockdown

New year, new me in the new lockdown

Pre-covid life new years resolutions always kicked-off with a strong start. Eat healthy, exercise more - the classic pledges. I didn’t end up sustaining the ‘new me’ because life/work (as per) got the best of me. This year, though, is very different. If 2020 taught me anything, it was that my heath shouldn’t be taken for granted, especially my mental health.

So this year, instead of having a hefty list of intentions, I’m just going to focus on a few, which are:

Feeding the mind. I’m going to amp up my good mood foods to stay sharp and positive. I really recommend the book The Happy Kitchen. Loads of info on foods that impact the brain and are key to maintaining your mental health.

Take a lunch break and leave the house. Working from home last year, I was snacking throughout the day, skipping lunch and sitting at my computer, or I was having a huge lunch and then just going back to my desk. I felt rubbish. I’m making a conscious effort to not snack, have a decent lunch and take 20 mins to walk around the block to shake it down. Good for the body but great for the mind to have a break too.

Mindfulness. I’m not great at it but I’m giving it a go. I’m dedicating 10 minutes in the morning to reflect on what I’m grateful for and 10 minutes in the evening to reflect on what positives came out of the day.

Are you practicing any new techniques to stay positive and level headed in lockdown 2.0..or 5.0 - I've lost count.

Some great ideas here Phil and kudos for sharing it. I too definitely feel like it’s very easy to fall into a negative mindset or become hyper charged/unable to detach from work. Going for lunchtime walks is something I’m trying to do more often and keep up with but think looking into other method mindfulness is certainly worth it too ??

I'm very fortunate Phil. I invested in a Peloton around 16 months ago and it gives me 60 - 90 minutes away from my desk to de-stress and keep fit especially when the weather isn't great.
