WHERE'S AI GOING IN 2025?

The AI conversation has continued to evolve in late 2024. We're past the glib jazz-hands novelty stage and people are really starting to demand utility. The future we're all hoping for – and which we're rapidly building toward at NOAN - is something like Jarvis in Iron Man - the system that knows your business, and which you can just chat to to get things done. Think Alexa meets ChatGPT meets Alfred from Batman meets Michael Clayton meets your brand bible. All-seeing, all-knowing, discreet, strategic and highly executive. We call it the Cognitive Operating System, and wrote about it here.?

That shouldn't be available to small businesses, though, right? Should be prohibitively expensive? WRONG.?

There's an irony in that for big, established organisations, this IS going to entail a long, costly process of deconstruction, reorganisation and unpicking an enormous mess - they're all operating in FUBAR mode - trying to make sense of decades of document creation.?

Small, early-stage businesses, on the other hand, are in a much better position to take advantage of the coming wave of AI tools – they don't have a huge legacy of file systems and messy data to reorient, they can just build AI-first or plug into the new systems that are emerging. In some ways, it's the most amazing time to build a business - starting from zero has never been less intimidating.

Jarvis & Tony Stark is the least abusive relationship that guy ever had

Still, a lot of people are stuck muddling about on ChatGPT, hoping for magic but getting lacklustre results. They hear people promising them a shiny bright new moon but they feel like they're getting all the dazzling power of a 1980s streetlamp.?

Cashing on on those fears come a million grifters hawking pdfs of prompts they wrote in ChatGPT – none of which are tailored to a user's business or business knowledge. Structuring that knowledge, and structuring the prompts to take advantage of that, well, that's where the real magic happens. A system that structures your organisation's knowledge for use by AI, and takes the pain out of prompt structuring - that's the dream.

Zen and the boring art of structuring knowledge

?????? ?? ?? ON THE FARM

The farmyard, where A.I. has two very different meanings

Farmers have it tough all over. If you've been watching events in the UK, you'll have seen farmers marching on parliament over a raft of budget measures that hit their finances in myriad ways. Add to that Brexit pressures on exporting goods, but also expiring EU grants and subsidies, which are being replaced with complicated and less beneficial structures.? The old axiom that money doesn't grow on trees was never truer. More farmers than ever are looking for alternate sources of income from their land, to effectively underwrite their ability to farm. Farming is drastically less lucrative than at any point in a generation, requiring bigger farms than ever to break even. For anyone toward the small end of the spectrum, diversification is key.?

It's why farmers gather at events like the Farm Business Innovation Show in Birmingham's NEC. NOAN attended it in November, alongside a raft of vendors hoping to help farmers & rural landowners strike up new businesses on their land. Self storage franchises, childrens' playspace equipment vendors, glamping equipment companies and marketplaces for cottages & rural rentals.?

NOAN co-founder Neal Mann talking AI for farm diversification

Building the equipment is one thing. Building the business is another. That's where we see NOAN coming in. Farmers need as much support as they can get to stay on their land, to continue putting food on our tables, and remain as custodians of the environment. Going to market digitally can be tricky, and strategizing about audiences and marketing is often foreign to people who may have typically had limited and fixed routes to market.?

That's why we launched SUPERCHARGED, a new content hub for rural entrepreneurs, shining a light on the many options they have for diversifying the income on their farms.?

The timing seems prescient.

On Monday the UK government launched its AI Opportunities Action Plan. (Announcement here, details here).?

The plan outlines a three-pronged approach:

- Building AI infrastructure and talent (including significant investment in computing resources and skills development)

- Promoting widespread AI adoption across the public and private sectors (using a "Scan → Pilot → Scale" methodology)

- Fostering the growth of UK-based, world-leading AI companies (through a new entity called UK Sovereign AI)

Among other aspects, this jumped out at us:

Sounds familiar.
