New Year – New Goals?
I’m going to lose 20 pounds. I will be more frugal. ?I am going to run a 10k (or half marathon). I’m going to get “in shape”.?I’m going to study harder, work less, spend more time with the family, start painting, take banjo lessons, quit biting my nails, tend to my spiritual needs”.?Sound familiar??
All these are wonderful aspirations, worthy of pursuit, in my opinion. ?Most, if not all, of us have things that we’d like to accomplish in the year that lies in front of us. Perhaps we write them down to cement them and turn them into actionable and measurable goals. Maybe we just imagine them for a few seconds and then set them aside never to be considered again (until next January?). Some are noble, global accomplishments. Others are “selfish” or “superficial”, but still important to us. No matter what they are, they take effort and desire to make them so.
In my experience, it can also be helpful to share our goals with someone and maybe ask for an accountability partner to keep us focused. ?So, I’m writing these down and sharing them with you because here are ten things I aspire to do more of, in 2023:
1.??????Be kind, especially to strangers.
2.??????Make a new friend.
3.??????Connect via email, phone or in person with an old friend I haven’t been in touch with.
4.??????Do at least one thing that is out of my comfort zone.
5.??????Attend an event that inspires me. (If you know me, you know it’s probably going to be theater!)

6.??????Say something complimentary, at an unexpected time, to someone who may least expect it.
7.??????Treat service workers with respect and dignity, and a smile!
8.??????Give bigger tips, especially on smaller bills (I’ll never miss that extra buck or two.)
9.??????Donate more freely to worthy organizations, causes or people.
10.??Live in a spirit of giving and gratitude.
I think I’ll find that while I’m doing 1 through 9, I’ll end up achieving number 10.?
