Happy New Year!!
Ready, Set, Goal!!
It is the time of year when we kick off our annual goals and go full throttle. The goals are posted so we can see what we are targeting. We let our inner circle know what we are planning to accomplish. We have chosen our “word” for the year. The emotion of a clean slate is intoxicating.
Then, reality hits. We get back into the routine of our lives. We get back to juggling work, kids, home, etc. The goals fade into the background. The months pass, and by June, only a faint amount of excitement over what you were going to accomplish remains.
An article by www.mindtools.com, “Eight Common Goal Setting Mistakes” helps to guide us on how to mitigate the challenge of going from goal frenzy to lack of completion.
Three key areas from the article are worth noting:
1) Too Many Goals: The expectation is to set goals in all aspects of your life. Use the “quality, not quantity” rule when setting goals.
2) Underestimating Completion Time: It is easy to get discouraged when things take longer to achieve. Breakdown your goals into small segments and review consistently.
3) Setting “Other People’s Goals”: Family, friends and your boss can influence the goals you set. In a year where we have been forced to evaluate what is important in our lives, it is important to focus on the goals that are important to you.
Revisit your 2021 goals and decide where to make necessary adjustments to facilitate the achievement of your goals.
All the best for the year ahead and restart your engines!!
