A New Year Filled With Hope Is Upon Us
But 2020 was a painful year! At home and across the globe, we saw our world, our country, our state, our community, and our families attacked by a novel coronavirus that we were not prepared to battle.
In the midst of this war, the killings of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd - among so many others - sparked an internal reckoning with how our historic mistreatment of black and brown people must end.
In each season this year, we witnessed the most dramatic environmental and climate disasters, for which, like the pandemic and institutional racism, we all played a part in allowing.
So where is the hope for the new year?
It’s where it’s always been: within each one of us as we never stopped reaching out to help, tending to the health and mental health of our patients, neighborhoods, and communities.
We realized our own limitations and committed ourselves to getting better, to being aware and caring more. In so many ways, this past year showed us the path forward — we need each other and we need to grow together and we can’t leave the most vulnerable behind.
The Health Center is not a perfect place...but it’s pretty close, because each of us truly believes in the proposition that healthcare and human rights and dignity and recognizing the humanity of each and every person is a right and responsibility for each of us.
Thank you for the heart that you bring each day to our work — it’s the hope and foundation upon which a new year dawns
Happy New Year to you and your families – onward!
