A new year for every day of 2016

A new year for every day of 2016

As I read disappointing stats on New Year resolutions' success, I'd like to wish friends and colleagues something less conventional than love, health and prosperity: a new year for every day of 2016, with words written 100 years ago...

"Every morning, when I wake up still under the canopy of the sky, I feel that it's New Year's Day. I hate these new years with a fixed cadence that transform life and human spirit into a business company with its yearly financial report, balance sheets and forecasts for the new management.

They make you lose the sense of continuity of life and spirit. You end up seriously believing that between year and year there is a solution of continuity and a novel history begins. You make resolutions, repent of blunders and so on.

...I want every morning to be a new year for me. Every day I want to come to terms with myself and self-renew. No pre-planned day for rest. I choose when to stop: only when I'm inebriated with intense life and want to immerse in animality, in order to draw new strength.

I would like for every hour of my life to be new, while referring back to those spent..."

Translated excerpt from Antonio Gramsci, Jan 1st 1916
