New Year, New Conversations

New Year, New Conversations

What will happen with what you've built? And what are you building it for in the first place? What impact and legacy will endure? How are the decisions being made now going to be looked back on by those that survive you in 10,20,50 years?

Every family business - not just the ultra-ultra outlier level successful ones like LVMH - needs to have these conversations. And really every family, regardless of status, should be bringing this up - it's definitely hard to think about and talk about but clarity and communication in estate and succession planning are needed - there are too many horror stories, plans never implemented or executed, wishes unmet.

One huge challenge is the lack of knowledge, access to tools and resources, and the plain old human need to take care of now and push off what isn't exactly imminent and urgent to another day.

But if not now, when? Let's get better at explaining and de-jargonning the language around this incredibly imposing financial topic and use new technologies and platforms to help guide more people through a real process - not just a sales cycle.

And, especially as it's the Jewish new year approaching, it's time to think about legacy in a deeper, even more important way - from Andy Wang , a must watch panel on giving. The impact never ends.

Money mindset is so important - what we carry with us effects us and weighs on our actions and decisions - Nicole Casperson with Alejandra Rojas .

Thanks so much for reading along (nearly) every week!

With the new year comes a new newsletter. The objective here is to create and curate information and content around what businesses need to do what to start, get off the ground, scale and grow, do mergers and acquisitions, and through exit and beyond. I'd like to to it biweekly, and we'll see how it goes. If there are any topics you'd like discussed, please let me know. The right fit is everything. In so many aspects in life. And of course at every level of business. Please send me any and all feedback on this new newsletter, thanks!

Not going to change Secure the Bag much, will keep on bringing you info like this

about the rule of 72 which helps understand how long it takes for money to double. Or like this all about the GOAT Warren Buffett -

Do something new and interesting this year - or this month or week. Because if you don't make some changes year to year, and instead keep doing the same exact things, with the same expected routine, is it really a new year. Or are you just living the same year over and over and over again? So let's go!! And if you are doing something different, please keep this community in the loop.

And secure the bag.

The challenges in lacking of knowledge is huge for most regardless of socioeconomic status. I wholeheartedly agree with simplifying the language around financial topics and using technology to guide people through the process. Great read thanks for sharing!

If it doesn't challenge me, it won't change me. You are so right that each new year provides opportunities, but we must seize and execute on those opportunities to truly make a difference for the larger purpose.
