New Year, New Chapter: Your Annual Planning Guide

New Year, New Chapter: Your Annual Planning Guide

I love this time of year.

The chance to close one chapter and begin a new one feels full of possibilities. It’s a clean slate, and you get to decide how the story unfolds.

To bring structure to this fresh start, I have a yearly tradition to reflect on the past year and plan for the one ahead.

The Look Back

For my year in review, I ask myself five key questions:

  1. Did I hit my goals? Why or why not?
  2. What am I most proud of? Why?
  3. What are the biggest lessons I learned?
  4. What activities gave me the most energy?
  5. What activities drained me the most?

The Look Ahead

Looking forward, I focus on four things:

  1. Revisiting my 10-year goals
  2. Setting 1-year goals (both personal and professional)
  3. Breaking those down into actionable quarter 1 goals
  4. Identifying the habits I want to maintain or add

This year, my coach suggested an addition to my planning: adding a theme for the year. The theme will act as a quick reminder to guide daily decisions.

My Theme for 2025: Consistency

Consistency has been the driving force behind all my progress. Small, simple steps every day lead to incredible results over time

  • When I consistently post, more people reach out to work with me
  • When I consistently read, I’m flooded with new ideas
  • When I consistently reduce drinking, I have more energy and focus
  • When I consistently work out, I feel strong and healthy
  • When I consistently prioritize quality time with Kel, our relationship flourishes

Consistency isn’t flashy, but it works. Over time, it makes success inevitable.

The exciting part? When you reflect on your past, outline your future, and identify the habits to get you there, the only thing that can stop you is quitting.

And when quitting isn’t an option, you become unstoppable.

For me, this realization is calming. Consistency simplifies the process—it’s just about showing up daily and trusting the compounding effect of small actions.

Your Turn

Do you take time for year-end reflection? If not, start this year with a theme to guide you.

Choose something that resonates—a word, a phrase, a motto—and let it be your anchor for 2025.
