Lean manufacturing and Industry 4.0 are the trends in modern manufacturing and logistics. Production systems, such as the Bosch Production System, ensure consistent improvement in product quality with a minimal waste of resources. IIoT also aims to optimize manufacturing and logistics, but often focuses on individual subareas. All too often, this results in a patchwork of individual solutions that are not compatible with each other. This patchwork naturally limits permanent improvements across plant boundaries, as envisaged by lean manufacturing.
This need not be the case, as this white paper shows. Using practical examples, it underlines how Industry 4.0 solutions can go hand in hand with the in-house production system. It starts with software developers who factor the principles of lean manufacturing from the very outset and develop corresponding functionalities. This way, digitalization makes a decisive and sustainable contribution to more efficient production and, at the same time, improves the processes of the production system.
