New Web Rising?
Or is the new web the same as the old web?
We are on the very front edge of a realignment of what it means to do business on the Internet. And before you think, "I'm a CPA, I'm a financial advisor, I'm the Dean of a College... I don't do business on the internet." If you have a website, you do. If your venture is on social media, you do. If you've ever sent a marketing email to get someone to buy your product, have a meeting, tour your campus... you are doing business on the internet.
And concensus is rising that this once pantheon of the future, THE INTERNET, has become a pretty shitty place to be. (If you are among the minority that haven't yet read the infamous "enshittification of everything " essay, now's your moment, but read mine first. ??) Doctorow's seminal work set off of a firestorm of "Aha!" moments worthy of an Oprah episode.
But! (And it's a big one) macro culture--like the state of the internet--moves much faster than micro culture--like how your business uses the internet. The speed of change of the platforms we use and the value systems they imply is drastically faster than it takes your committee on committees to decide what to do with the website.
So you need high-agility thinking and leadership when it comes to your go-to-market.
In this week's FWD, I do as I always do, give you FIVE DAMNS TO GIVE with commentary on what to ripped straight from the fast-moving, shit-making train.
In a rare twist, suddenly things may be getting better. These dry bones may spring to life again.
