A New Way for our Elected Officials to live in DC and their Districts

I have been thinking about some of the challenges we as the American People are facing relative to how our Senators and Congressmen function. Since many of them complain about not having enough money to find suitable accommodations in the Capitol and still support a home and family back in their State or District, I have a proposal for your consideration.
First, we will construct, at Taxpayer expense a housing complex, a planned community if you will, for our elected representatives, all members of the House and Senate as well as the Vice President. That will consist of 536 homes. We will have a nice park and some adequate recreational facilities. It will be close to the headquarters of the government so they can save on transportation.
Second, we again at Taxpayers expense, buy a home in the District that they represent, in the case of the House of Representatives, and in the State Capitol for the Senate, that they can live in rent free while they serve in office. Thus can have a place to stay when they come back to meet with constituents separate from their personal home.
Now, and this is the best part, in exchange for these benefits, they can not meet with lobbyists outside the business offices of the Congress where they work. If they are caught doing this, they are automatically removed from office.
In summation, they are there to conduct the business of this country, not to be bought off by the Special Interests, then we must make structural changes to how they function in that city while they are serving our country. If we value our Republic so little that we can not make some simple changes to how they conduct themselves, then indeed, they are the rulers and we are their pawns.

5 年I like the housing idea, but not the free rent. Perhaps at a very reduced rate, so maintenance will be performed.

5 年Novel idea Greg, It is a good solution, so good you are calling their bluff and they would never give up the gravy train. They simply want more without giving more.? ?

5 年Interesting .... DC is a pretty small place, with many overlapping social events and networks. Not unlike Nevada where "three degrees of separation" means you are new to the area.? Limiting/eliminating lobbying needs to happen.?
