Student debt to ding credit scores
Americans who’ve fallen behind on student loan payments are about to see that delinquency data reflected in their credit scores. While repayment on many student loans resumed in October 2023 following a pandemic-era reprieve, the White House last year extended a one-year moratorium that barred missed or late student-loan payments from being included in credit reports. ?? @Melissa Cantor

AI News to Know??
Google has launched a new AI technology called HeAR, which it says is capable of predicting early signs of disease based on sound. The offering is a bioacoustic foundation model trained on 300 million pieces of audio data from around the world that can detect subtle differences in cough patterns. The AI can be loaded onto a smartphone and could become a critical tool in early detection of diseases, such as tuberculosis, in areas where expensive diagnostic hardware isn't available.??? This week’s topic: Digital detox with dumbphones
Smartphones, social media and constant office notifications have driven many people to seek digital detoxes. But for some, embracing pre-internet devices is no longer just a refuge — it’s a status symbol, per The Wall Street Journal. In order to focus, some executives are turning to so-called dumbphones, which can only text and make calls. Also making a comeback: fax machines. But disconnecting is a luxury not available to most employees. Nor is the cost of some low-tech gear — some dumphones cost the same as the new iPhone 16. ?? Emma W. Thorne

2 个月I must admit, I do love the design of dumb phones (just me dreaming about having a phone with a physical keyboard) - but I don't think many would be willing to make the switch. Most dumb phones lack features many need in their jobs and the modern world - 5g, WhatsApp, etc. There are ways to dumb down your 'modern' phone, however! It's what I've done with mine. Minimalist phone launchers and focus modes (plus one that makes the phone display gray scale for bedtime, which makes things less eye-catching) are all you really need unless you're okay with being a little disconnected, or the above aren't working for you.
