This week I was able to moderate two panels with a great set of panelist.
The first was put together by CloudSort and featured panelists Ellen Voie of Women In Trucking Association , Ryan Park of CloudSort , Dwayne Shakespeare of Jillamy Inc. and Allison C. Ullrich of Outer . We discussed the modular middle mile.
One of the biggest takeaways from this panel for me was the impact that new technology and software can have on multiple parts of the supply chain. Cloudsort has made it possible for the middle mile to be very simple with the ability to do sortation at smaller facilities and with less automation requirements.
In turn, this has made it possible for smaller to medium sized businesses to add additional services they can offer and also has allowed for more carrier diversification which gives more opportunities to regional and independent carriers.
In the second panel, we went through how to win at DTC fulfillment. The panel consisted of Joseph Gullo of Thursday Boot Company , David Yarbrough of Logiwa and Reg Adams of Techdinamics Integrations .
My biggest takeaway from this panel discussion was the importance of having all parts of your fulfillment strategy visible and communicating with each other. When you are dealing with multiple nodes and multiple points of fulfillment then you want to ensure everything is being orchestrated properly to allow each point to be as efficient as possible.
In an ever changing fulfillment landscape you need to ensure that your processes and systems are able to handle stressful times and also able to scale up and down with your business.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there and looking forward to bringing you more content next week!

Monday Episode:
"We use hundreds of billions of tons of materials every year and only really use 8.5% of it, again, meaning most of the inputs that goes in our supply chain , is of virgin materials. And I was, as I was telling you, that if we consider our earth. As a warehouse. And we keep,?you know, taking from the warehouse. Like if you think of it like that, you will know that,?we are taking, we are making and we are wasting from it. This warehouse is gonna be empty soon. Yeah. And we are not refilling this warehouse." - Sneha Kumari

Wednesday Episode:
"There's a need for?these smaller businesses to have the technology to compete, because otherwise then they're not gonna be able to kind of play?in the 2020s,?with the expectations of shippers and receivers. So, you know, us really seeing that as an underserviced market segment. You know,?we are focused on solving problems for, you know, for people, who need them to be solved. And really for us making technology and?automation accessible for SMBs as a challenge that excites us. You know, these same businesses need mission-critical software and digitization to let them play in this new market. And that's, you know, that means that things have to be easy to use things have to be intuitive. And also you have to be able to provide,?the ongoing kind of support and customer success to help these businesses get there because they don't have huge internal IT teams or,?unlimited budgets. So, you know, has to be achievable. And?that's the sort of stuff that gets us out of bed in the morning,?to be honest." - Shaun Hagen
