A New Wall Between Syria and Iraq

In the Iraqi Sinjar province, on the border with Syria (east of al-Hasqa), Iraq has begun building a barrier that includes a concrete wall. The length of the border between Iraq and Syria is about 1,000 kilometers. According to the statement of the Iraqi government from January 26, the wall aims to block ISIS terrorism.

At this stage, it is unclear what the scope of construction is and the length of the built wall. According to the construction zone, it is possible that the US, which has military and economic interests in the al-Hasaka area (deployment of forces and oil fields secured along with the Kurds), is involved and influences the construction of the barrier.
