[New Video] Unboxing & First Impressions of HMD's Skyline - Kenya's Latest & Premium HMD Originals Smartphone.

I recently had the privilege of getting early access to the HMD Skyline, a device that’s poised to make waves when it officially launches in Kenya later this month, in September 2024.

In this unboxing video, I take you through my first impressions of the Skyline, a device that represents the next big step for HMD Global as they shift focus from Nokia-branded devices to their own HMD Originals line. The Skyline combines sleek design with powerful performance, making it one of their best offerings to date.

Unboxing & First Impressions.

As I pull the Skyline out of the box, the first thing that stands out is its brushed aluminum finish. The design features tapered edges, reminiscent of the classic Nokia Lumia series, which gives it a sense of nostalgia for longtime Nokia fans. This device feels solid in the hand, thanks to its high-quality metal construction, and it has a surprising heft that adds to its premium feel.

The version I’m unboxing is the Neon Pink/Rose model, but if this isn’t your style, the Skyline is also available in a more tactical, Twisted Black color – a matte black or graphite finish that’s sure to appeal to those who prefer a sleeker, more professional look.

Display & Build Quality.

When I powered on the Skyline, I was immediately struck by the 6.55-inch pOLED screen. The 144Hz refresh rate is a standout feature that delivers ultra-smooth visuals, whether you’re browsing, gaming, or streaming. The colors on this display are vibrant and sharp, with 1000 nits of peak brightness ensuring that even outdoor viewing is crystal clear.

Camera System.

The 108 MP rear camera is where this device really shines. With support for HDR and Night Mode 3.0, I’m excited to test out its performance in low light over the next few days. The camera module also features a 50 MP front camera with AI enhancements, so whether you’re snapping selfies or recording video, the Skyline has you covered.

Performance & Battery Life.

Under the hood, the Skyline packs the Snapdragon? 7s Gen 2 processor, paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. This ensures that the phone can handle anything you throw at it – from multitasking to mobile gaming. Add in 5G connectivity, and you have a phone that’s not only fast but also future-proof.

Battery life is another area where the Skyline excels, with a 4600 mAh battery that promises up to 48 hours of use. It supports 33W fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and even reverse wireless charging.

Final Thoughts.

This unboxing has only scratched the surface of what the HMD Skyline has to offer. In the coming days, I’ll be using the Skyline as my daily driver, testing out its camera, battery life, and overall performance in more detail.

Stay tuned for my full review on the day of its official launch in Kenya later this month, where I’ll give you the complete breakdown of whether the Skyline lives up to its promise.

In the meantime, if you’re in the market for a smartphone that combines sleek design, powerful performance, and a reasonable price of KES 60,000, the HMD Skyline might just be the perfect device for you.
