Hanuman's Strategic Entry into Lanka
In Valmiki Ramayan's Sundarkand (Chapter 2, shlok 1–58), Hanuman Ji, after defeating the demoness Simhika, continues his epic aerial journey over the ocean, spanning an incredible 800 miles.
“? ????????????????????? ??????, ?????????? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??”
He lands atop the Trikut mountain in Lanka, displaying boundless enthusiasm and determination, prepared to cross countless more oceans if needed.
As Hanuman gazes upon the city of Lanka from the mountain's peak, he beholds its breathtaking beauty and architectural marvels. Lanka, designed by the divine architect Vishwakarma, appears as a floating ship in the skies.
Approaching the northern gate of the city, Hanuman is struck by its sheer magnitude, towering like the Kailas mountain. It seems to draw a celestial line in the sky as if the heavens themselves have embraced its lofty palaces.
Lankapuri, the city of Lanka, is teeming with formidable demons, reminiscent of the netherworld Naags in Bhogavatipuri. Its architecture, a masterpiece of craftsmanship, exudes an air of mystery. In ancient times, it was the abode of Kuber, the god of wealth. Mighty demons, armed with tridents and swords, guard Lankapuri like venomous serpents protecting their lairs.
Surveying the heavily fortified city, guarded by the sea and inhabited by the ruthless Raavan, Hanuman reflects: "Even if the monkey army were to reach this place, their efforts would be in vain. Even the gods themselves cannot conquer Lankapuri through brute force. This is the most treacherous and challenging fortress, ruled by Raavan. How will the mighty Lord Raghunath (Lord Ram) confront this formidable stronghold upon entering?"

Standing atop the mountain peak, Hanuman contemplates how to discover Sita's whereabouts, a critical task to aid Lord Ram's mission. He realizes that entering the city in his current form would be perilous, given the watchful demon guards. To accomplish this monumental task discreetly, he decides to assume an invisible form, undetectable by the naked eye. Only the unfolding events will reveal someone's presence.
“??????????????? ?????????????????? ? ?????, ????????? ???????? ????? ?????????????”
Hanuman's daring leap across the ocean would not be in vain. To avoid detection, he must remain hidden within the city. The question is, how can he achieve his goal without alerting the wicked demon king Raavan? Hanuman resolves to maintain composure and avoid reckless actions.
“??? ????????? ??????? ??????????????? ????, ?????????? ??? ???? ???????? ????????????? ?????????? ????????????????????? ?????????, ???????? ????? ?????? ??????????????????”
With this resolve, the brave Hanuman eagerly awaits sunset. As the sun descends, he minimizes his size to that of a cat, performing an extraordinary spectacle. During the twilight hour, Hanuman, in his diminutive and virtually invisible form, swiftly enters the outer part of the enchanting city.
