New Vatican Scandal: Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia Revelations
Preamble. This writer was an altar boy in the mid-1940s. This fervent Catholic has never spoken critically about Church leaders until about 2017. My wife and I with sixty years of marriage in the Catholic Church, remain Traditional Catholics, and attend both the Traditonal Latin Mass and New Mass. Nevertheless, we believe that all Christians have a grave duty and obligation to speak out respectfully, whenever they encounter teachings or immoral activities, which are against Christ’s Gospels or Church Traditions.
The president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, on August 28, called Italy’s notorious Law 194 legalizing abortion “a pillar of society,” insisting that no one is looking to overturn it. Interviewed by Italian state television Rai Tre, Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia lauded the 1978 law allowing abortion in Italy, a move that critics?claim is?a new “ground zero of morality.”
“I believe that at this point the Law 194 is a pillar of our social life,” the Archbishop stated . “In my opinion, and I have written as much, I would like to see more emphasis on the part that is hardly spoken of, namely the right to motherhood, to see our country grow, in the face of the drama of a generational imbalance that is quite dramatic.”
Paglia continued saying, “I would exhort to look with trust upon a country that wishes to live in liberty, in development and progress, and I think that the crisis in natality is a problem on which we have unfortunately not reflected and it is already late,” he said.
At this point, Georgia Rombolà, the host of the program, summed up the archbishop’s words, saying, “So, the Law 194 is not up for debate,” to which Archbishop Paglia replied, “No, absolutely not.”
In response to Archbishop Paglia’s words, Jacopo Coghe, spokesman for pro-life NGO “Pro Vita & Famiglia”?[suggested]?that even a thoughtful attempt to promote an open, non-confessional debate about abortion and the birthrate, emphasizing the importance of maternity, cannot deny “the intrinsic evil of the Law 194.”
“We do not understand how a law that suppresses defenseless and innocent human lives can be a ‘pillar’ of society,” Coghe added. “It is as if the president of the Jewish Anti-Defamation League declared itself in favor of the holocaust,”?wrote ?Tommaso Scandroglio, in a piece for?La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana.
Since its passage in 1978, Italy’s Law 194 has allowed for the legal killing of more than six million children in Italy, a country that is suffering from a severe drop in birthrate far below replacement levels.
Archbishop Paglia’s words are against the backdrop of the June 24 ruling by the United States Supreme Court overturning the 1973 decision in?Roe v. Wade?that mandated legal abortion for all 50 U.S. states. Now citizens in each of the fifty states can vote to allow partly or disallow abortions.
?In 2016, Pope Francis?named ?Paglia President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, which was founded by Saint John Paul II in 1994 for the express?purpose ?of combatting a growing “culture of death” in contemporary society. Central to the culture of death, according to former Pope Saint John Paul, is the promotion of a putative right to abortion, which Italy’s Law 194 establishes. “To claim the right to abortion…,” John Paul?wrote , “to recognize that right in law, means to attribute to human freedom a perverse and evil significance: that of an absolute power over others and against others. This is the death of true freedom.”
Archbishop Paglia, head of the Pontifical Academy for Life, also paid a homosexual artist [with Catholic funds] to paint a blasphemous homoerotic mural in his cathedral church. The painting includes an image of the archbishop himself in (red cap), and covers the side of the facade of the cathedral church of the Diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia. It shows Jesus carrying nets to heaven filled with homosexuals, transsexuals, prostitutes, all jumbled in erotic interactions.
In August of last year, Pope Francis elevated Paglia to the Presidency of the Pontifical Academy for Life. He also heads the Pontifical Pope John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family to defend the sanctity of human life and family values. The Academy was radically transformed as new statutes were issued that?did not required ?members to sign a?declaration of fidelity ?to the Catholic Church’s perennial teachings on the “Right to Life.” All prior Academy members were?abruptly terminated , leaving Paglia as new head of the organization.
Pontifical Academy for Life Glorifies Culture of Death Devotee
In addition, Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia went out of his way to express great admiration for Atheist Radical Party founder Marco Pannella. The head of the Pontifical Academy for Life joined a “debate” to mark the publication of a biography on deceased Italian Radical Party founder Marco Pannella. Paglia expressed unqualified admiration for his longtime friend Pannella, one of Italy’s most radical proponents of the “culture of death.” The Archbishop’s performance was reminiscent of Pope Francis’ own praise for Emma Bonino (below), a Prominent Italian Abortionist. She is one of the country’s “forgotten greats,” Pope Francis said of Italy’s foremost promoter of abortion in February 2016.

Pannella took part in every endeavor of the culture of death – successful or not – the legalization of abortion, same-sex marriage, blasphemy, free love, transgender rights. Pannella was a proponent of socialism, nudism and the abolition of the Concordat between Italy and the Catholic Church. His Radical Party stood for all of that and much more immorality. Pannella came out as a bisexual on Radio Radicale in 2010, admitting that he had “loved three or four men” while maintaining a lifelong unmarried relationship with girlfriend Mirella who “didn’t mind” his homosexual flings and his affairs with other women. He was also a life-long atheist.
Archbishop Paglia fell over his own words in praising the memory of the man who died without having reconciled himself with Christ and His Church. During the speech, he called Pannella a “man of great spirituality.” From the beginning, when we met in the 1990’s in a common interest for the figure of Ibrahim Rgova whom he called ‘the Gandhi of the Balkans,’ we spoke of the force of ideals, and I like to say of Pannella, “he was a man of great spirituality,” Paglia said. “Towards the end, he would say: ‘I chose not holy matter but the holy spirit, not property but spirituality.”
“Today, it is vital to find a form of proximity through which to?unite those who are diverse, in order to build a unity of purpose or a unity that embraces all …” ?Paglia said. Pannella is the “diversity” rhetoric toted by the internationalists and globalists who deem religions and traditions to be today’s main threat to world peace, and who openly work toward a global spirituality, where all faiths are equal and relativism rules. [This conviction is contrary to what all popes taught, including Saint JPII].
Paglia fondly remembers his friend’s last birthday when Francis entrusted him with his book about Mercy and a Medal for Pannella. Pannella wrote a letter to the Pope Francis, in essence saying he understood that this was the way to transform the world and Italy when so many walls are still being built. Pope Francis criticized others [e.g., U.S President Trump’s walls] who have appeared since his death to shape other walls: “Marco’s way of speaking must still be heard; it is the language of universality.”
Paglia continued, “when Marco was dead, the Pope thanked me for what I had done and said: ‘Marco lived as a believer, ready to pay the price with his very self for what he believed.’ Paglia is of a similar opinion: “His story shows how a man can help history to go forward towards the defense of each and every person’s dignity, especially those who are marginalized. I take great pleasure in saying that Marco was truly a spiritual man who fought and hoped against all hope.
“This man put every effort into promoting the transgression of God’s law,” Paglia said. “He dreamed of a convent that would not be established on the rules of others but on his own, the rules of radical thought. … He was against transcendence, he would say that rules do not descend from Heaven; it is man who creates them and makes sure they are applied. If by the word transcendence he was designating something that is exterior, far away or platonic, it is obvious that we should agree with Marco, because ideas should be incarnated in or own flesh!”
Several Italian newspapers called Paglia’s speech an effort to canonize Pannella and to preach his New Gospel. His conclusion, as he turned toward Pannella’s biographers, tends to prove them right. “I believe that today Marco, who is full of the spirit, is still blowing and asking?us to help the spirit whose breath makes history move,” Paglia said.
Riccardo Cascioli, editor of?La nuova Bussola Quotidiana, one of Italy’s conservative newspapers, called the author of this overwhelming eulogy the President of the “Pontifical Academy for Death.”
Response: What are the “key words” that Paglia and Pannella use that is also found in Pope Francis many edicts and new book? They include, Globalism, Spirituality, Socialism, Mercy, Dignity for all, and All Faiths are Equal. Tragically, Marco Pannella died without having reconciled himself with Christ. Is that what this Archbishop is promoting for all Christians?
Pope Francis apologized for [unproven] “Catholic Church” acts allegedly against native children in Canada, decades ago. However, churches are not judged guilty in criminal cases; individuals are found guilty or innocent, not institutions. Thus far, Pope Francis fails to say anything against secular leaders who were directly responsible, including Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau’s father. He also said nothing about many prior bishops who persistently abuse the Holy Body of Christ during Mass, by not supporting Pro-Life, while funding Pro-Choice, and never inhibiting Catholic Trudeau from Holy Communion at Mass. Pope Francis and all his bishops, like trained soldiers participated in idol rituals led by their native celebrant.
On August 28-29, Pope Francis appointment of twenty new cardinals, which effectively “stacks” future conclave votes for the papacy, and he involved 96-year old frail Pope Benedict XVI, who did not seem to know most of the new cardinals, near the end of this ritual of blessings. Perhaps he wanted to show it had “greater authority,” during the final photo-shoot.
Finally, how can Catholics trust his worldwide Synod process when Francis puts another questionable leader, Bishop Mario Grech as Pro-Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops in charge of the process? Church Militant?reported ?January 19 that the head of the diocese said he would strip priests of their faculties if they refused to implement the new Maltese bishops' guidelines, which allow those in an objective state of adultery to approach the sacraments as long as they are "at peace with God." The report originated from?Mesa in Latino , which spoke with inside sources close to the situation. The bishop naturally denies these accusations. Pope Francis with Bishop Grech’s team leadership will likely receive what he obviously expects from this worldwide-predisposed Synod process. ?
Where are ALL the good bishops’ voices on these crucial Christian issues? If we do not speak out about immorality, are we therefore guilty of compliance?
