NEW: URRI PROJECT

NEW: URRI PROJECT

The Uganda Resilience and Refugee Initiative (URRI), is a program aimed at building climate resilience and promoting sustainable development in refugee-affected areas in Uganda. The initiative, led by a consortium of dedicated partners, will start in September 2024 and run through December 2028 Funded by Embassy of Denmark in Uganda /Danida.

Objective:

URRI’s main goal is to improve climate adaptation and resilience, manage the environment sustainably, and advance gender equality and women’s empowerment among refugees and host communities.

Key Highlights:

Coverage: Lot 1: North West-Nile (Yumbe, Obongi, Moyo Districts) and Lot 2: South West-Nile (Madi Okollo, Terego, Koboko Districts).

Target Groups: The program will support 30,125 individual farmers, including 1,205 farmer groups (25 members each). At least 60% women and 50% youth (18-30 years) will be included, with 35% of participants from refugee communities and 65% from host communities.

Sustainability Focus: URRI will encourage climate-smart agriculture, sustainable natural resource management, and gender transformation to ensure long-term environmental and social benefits.

Consortium Partners: The consortium, led by Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehj?lp , includes CEFORD , DanChurchAid Uganda , PALM Corps , and #PICOT. Each partner brings valuable expertise in climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture, land management, and gender equality, ensuring a well-rounded approach to the initiative.

Collaboration: URRI will work closely with District and Lower Local Governments (DLGs and LLGs), as well as the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), offering capacity-building support to strengthen local implementation efforts.

This initiative is a big step toward creating resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities in refugee-affected areas of Uganda. We’re committed to making a positive impact and will keep you updated as we move forward.

Our team is now at Onomo hotel in Kampala attending the inception event of the project with the other partners.

Stay tuned for more updates!
