New Unfiltered Beers

When we bottle our beer, we have to ensure three things:

-???Firstly, that the beer tastes great;

-???Secondly, that the beer has absolute clarity;

-???Thirdly, that the bottle of beer will be just as good to drink after 12-months as it is when freshly packaged.

Our customers would expect nothing less.?

To achieve this clarity and stability, we put the beer through very fine filters to remove residual yeast and proteins. Now the growth and popularity of our bottled beer over the last 5 years suggests we do a pretty good job (not to mention the many awards we’ve won), however there is a compromise with filtration in that a degree of flavour is removed.

So what would happen if we didn’t filter? If we accepted that the beer may have a haze and that we couldn’t stamp a Best Before End date 12-months from packaging? Would we have something with even more flavour….

We’ve produced two trial batches of ‘Unfiltered’, one of Cheshire Cat and one of Jester IPA. Fresh beer without any fine filtration and just a gentle carbonation. They taste fantastic, look fantastic and have a great depth of flavour. We’ve got a limited quantity of both but if they’re well received then we’ll do plenty more and potentially produce other beers in our range the same way.

(We chose cans for these as they have benefits over glass bottles in that they’re lighter and take up less space, so easier to transport, plus they’re really easy to recycle and quicker to chill down to drinking temperature.)
