New troops join anti-terror campaign in Sulu

SULU: Almost 500 new soldiers joined a Philippine Army division in Sulu to boost their counterterrorism efforts in the southern province.?

The 453 newly graduated soldiers officially joined the 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division during the closing ceremony of their Infantry Orientation Course (INFOC) at the division's “Mastal” Training School in Camp Bud Datu, Tagbak village, Indanan municipality, on Aug 6.?

Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, commander of the division and Joint Task Force (JTF) Sulu, presided over the closing ceremony of the two-month competency training for infantry soldiers composed of graduates from Candidate Soldier Course Classes of 680, 681 and 682, according to a statement.?

Alakdan Division Training School (DTS) Commandant Col. Leomar Jose Doctolero said that the 453 newly privates are composed of 412 males and 41 females who will be deployed in different infantry battalions.

Maj. Gen. Patrimonio congratulated the new soldiers for their sacrifices and perseverance in the training.?

He also welcomed them to them division as they will be part of the anti-terrorism campaign in Sulu.?

He also emphasised that the training they have undergone is part of their readiness prior to their deployment.

“For the next few days, you will be deployed in your respective units and be part of our peace and security campaign in the province of Sulu. Never forget the things you have learned at 11th DTS as you were molded to be a well-disciplined soldier”, said Patrimonio.?

Sulu is the stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf group and the scene of several terror attacks including suicide bombings in 2019 and 2020 by Filipinos and Indonesians.
