New trends in AI - April 2022

There's no doubt that artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the hottest topics in the tech world right now. But what exactly is AI, and what are the latest trends in this rapidly evolving field?

In its simplest form, AI is the ability of a computer to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as understanding natural language and recognizing patterns. But as AI technology has become more sophisticated, its capabilities have expanded well beyond these basic functions.

Today, AI is being used in a variety of ways, from powering virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa to more complex applications like self-driving cars and medical diagnoses. And as AI technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more amazing and life-changing applications in the years to come.

So what are the latest trends in AI? Here are a few of the most exciting developments:

NVidia's New H100 GPU

At the Graphics Technology Conference(GTC), NVIDIA unveiled the latest AI accelerator - the H100 Tensor Core GPU. It's a successor to the successfully A100 GPU launched two years ago. With 9x faster AI Training and 30x faster inference, it's more than just an incremental upgrade to A100.

540 billion parameter PaLM from Google

Google AI's new 540 billion parameter language model PaLM. PaLM showed a training efficiency of 57.8% hardware FLOPs utilization - the highest that a large language model at this scale has reached.

Animating faces with deep learning

Deep Learning can become an enabling technology for applications such as gaming and VR. Existing Deep Learning based image animation frameworks often rely on structured representations of images: human key points, optical flows, 3D meshes, and so on.?This work proposes a Latent Image Animator (LIA), which only relies on a self-supervised image autoencoder without any explicitly structured representations. Instead, they define a Linear Motion Decomposition which aims to describe movement in a video as a latent path via a linear combination of a set of learned motion directions and magnitudes.
