Whew! Can't believe I'm welcoming you to letter number three already! I hope you've enjoyed reading as much as I have written. And, of course, learned a ton.
In Package Your Potential 1 & 2, we've looked at how to Know Your Worth, Craft a Rich Pitch, and Establish a Strong Personal Brand.
Let's look at how to stand out even more when attracting a dream career role in today's issue with my unique approach to CV writing, which my clients have thoroughly enjoyed.
A quick question. Is your CV strong enough?
I give spoilers to the secrets I use just because I care enough and want you to succeed. So keep reading.
The employment sector is changing staggeringly, so understanding how to position yourself correctly couldn't be more important.
If you don't want to be overlooked for the job you want, one of the BEST things you could do is ensure your CV is strong enough to stand out from the competition, but this is easier said than done if you don't know how CV styles have evolved.
A CV is more than a document used in applying for jobs. It is an extension/representation of yourself to a potential employer. Therefore, it should be in the best possible form.
I spend 6 hours with my clients on average before I've co-designed and written their CV/Resume. This is because I've always viewed a CV/ Resume as an opportunity for
It's an unconventional approach, but it has helped me understand how to bring the best out of my clients through their CVs.
It has also exposed me to a scarcely talked-about topic.
Over the years, I discovered that it could be challenging to comprehend how to write a CV that accurately portrays a person's USP, accomplishments and success strategies without learning about them.
This is prevalent because people create most CVs using sloppy online questionnaires, and it's why many CVs sound regurgitated, shallow and easily passed over. I believe that a CV can serve its purpose if it highlights strength-based methodologies, confidence-boosting, and executive-level employment strategies for a job seeker.?
If you have an old-style CV, I'm afraid to say you are at a disadvantage before you have even pressed the upload button.
To help you identify whether your CV is positioning you for job success, here are
3 OLD STYLE MISTAKES you want to AVOID on your CV;
What is the solution?
The New Style CV
So a NEW style CV/ resume needs to bring yourself, your accomplishments and your unique value to LIFE. Here's a summary of what ingredients to add to your special mix to create the STAND OUT document:
Passion: Stop being so strict. Recruiters/employers are sifting through application documents from candidates with similar skills and experience. They must ultimately determine which appears to be the best fit or most deserving of the role. Showing your passion is one way to convey this!
Passion can be demonstrated in various ways, including a passion for the ROLE, EMPLOYER, COMPANY ETHOS, IMPACT and CULTURE.
It may only need to be a sentence or a paragraph, but it helps to provide more insight into your unique contribution to the role.
Personality: A CV, application form, or cover letter that lacks personality comes across as generic and flat. Injecting your distinct personality traits naturally changes the tone and overall feel of the document, making it more striking and engaging to read.
The best CVs and applications leave a lasting positive impression, leaving the recruiter curious to learn more. With so much competition for job openings, it's critical to avoid appearing the same as everyone else. So why not?
Expert Status: One of the main reasons candidates aren't shortlisted for positions is that they don't understand their "Expert Status" and their CV and application documents don't package and position them as an authority in their field.
Expert Status means you're not just good at something; you're KNOWN FOR doing it exceptionally well. So find yours out and highlight it proudly, along with your REPUTATION.
Evidence: Applications frequently downplay achievements because they simply bullet point tasks and generic duties that anyone in a similar role could list. The most impressive application documents include examples of success that STAND OUT and create enough intrigue to pique the interest and confidence of the person shortlisted to put forward for an interview.
Presentation: First impressions are just as important in an application as in an interview. It's great to have impressive examples to show off, but this can be undermined by poor presentation. Common design mistakes include:?
On the other hand, CV's may be perfectly presented but lack substance when read.
