New stuff.... (#007)
Welcome to the Not Just CAD! newsletter here on LinkedIn!
The Not Just CAD! newsletter primarily talks about AutoCAD and Revit, and, sometimes, not just CAD, hence the name. CAD is often quite dry subject matter, so expect a bit of CAD-related humour (or Not Just CAD-related humour) along the way!
As a LinkedIn [in]structor and an Autodesk Certified Instructor (ACI), it’s always good to pass on my AutoCAD and Revit expertise to you through my courses in the LinkedIn Learning library. I’ll mention a few links to my courses, featuring one a week, and I’ll also feature one of my AutoCAD Tips & Tricks too. There will also be new stuff going on out there in the world of CAD!
New stuff….
It’s been quite the week for new stuff. Some of my new AutoCAD ‘deeper dive’ courses have dropped this week in the library, and AMD have put out some lovely, shiny, graphics cards (GPUs). So, this week, for me, is a bit like a birthday. I can get excited about things that are happening: like my course releases and check out some new toys: the new AMD GPUs. Exciting times, right?
Ooh, shiny!
Following on from the last Not Just CAD! newsletter (number 006), I want to talk about GEAR again. And not just any gear. This is some serious shizzle. AMD have released their new range of Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) to much acclaim. As usual, AMD have provided some fantastic GPUs at sensible prices!
One quote from ExtremeTech.com states that, “Once again, AMD has introduced some rock-the-house workstation GPUs at competitive prices.” Check out the ExtremeTech article here. It gives a great breakdown of all the new AMD GPUs with their specs, and more importantly, their costs.
As a big fan of AMD tech, and as one of their Subject Matter Experts (SME), I always follow their new technologies. One of these is a thing called AMD Radeon PRO Viewport Boost. This is supported by the new GPUs and gives an incredible 114% viewport boost performance in Autodesk Revit, and allows you the user, to get high-level graphics performance on those more complex Revit projects!
New AutoCAD courses!
As a LinkedIn Learning [in]structor, I’m always creating new content for the library. We released the core AutoCAD courses back in March when AutoCAD 2022 was released, and now we are seeing the AutoCAD ‘deeper dive’ courses coming through.
Check out the new AutoCAD: Spaces & Workspaces and AutoCAD: Interface courses by clicking on the links provided!

Not Just CAD! goes live in July!
As a huge advocate of LinkedIn and LinkedIn Learning, I was recently given the go-ahead to start video podcasting using the LinkedIn Live platform. JULY is when the Not Just CAD! video podcasts will start broadcasting! Stay tuned for updates!
I am honoured that I have been given the bandwidth to do this, and I put up a poll recently, asking what YOU would all like to see in a Not Just CAD! video podcast. the poll has now closed but click on the image below to get to the poll. I now know what things you would like me to talk about!
AutoCAD Tips & Tricks
Talking of things that I talk about (constantly – LOL), I always feature one of my AutoCAD Tips & Tricks in the Not Just CAD! newsletter. This week you can check out how to utilize your AutoCAD Options. The Options dialog box is often quite daunting to newer AutoCAD users (and even some seasoned users) and this video breaks down a few of the settings in there to help you on your way!
LinkedIn Live – Beams & Columns Ep 3 – May 18th
Episode 3 of Beams & Columns was most informative! Not only did the viewers learn something, but Jim and I did too! May was Mental Health Awareness Month, and our special guest was Heidi Hanna, whose Stress Mastery was a great point of discussion, as we talked about stress, mental health, and how the pandemic has affected our industry. Tune in by clicking on the image below to watch the recorded broadcast and stay tuned for the date of the June episode of Beams & Columns!
In the meantime….
As usual, I have kept things brief, but in the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly via LinkedIn, or through the magic of social media. You'll find me and Not Just CAD! on the following platforms; Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
I have promised you CAD humour here in the newsletter and I’ve been a fan of Roger Penwill and his CAD cartoons for years. I reached out to him recently to ask if I could include his cartoons here on Not Just CAD! and he said I could!
For those CAD Jedis out there teaching their CAD padawans how to use 3D, I’m with you…..
