New study on friendships in adults with DCD/Dyspraxia-can you help?

Myself and a colleague are undertaking a research project to find out more about :

The experiences of adults (18-40 years) with and without DCD/Dyspraxia in making and maintaining close friendships and the opportunities for doing so.

We need your help.

Information on the study is as follows:

Much of the research until recently in the field of Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD, also known as Dyspraxia) has taken place about children, despite the fact that we now know that for around 60-70% of people they may have some challenges in adult life. Some of the research findings in childhood have indicated that it is more challenging to make and keep friends.

In this study, we are interested in finding out more about what are the experiences of adults with and without DCD/Dyspraxia in making and maintaining close friendships and the opportunities for doing so.

This information is really important to understand in order to guide other adults (and parents of children) so they can maximise the opportunities in the future, if they wish to do so.

Can anyone take part?

  • You are eligible to take part if you either have DCD/Dyspraxia

OR

  • You do not have had any significant motor difficulties since childhood or think you may have DCD.
  • You are 18-40 years of age.
  • However, if you meet any of the following criteria, unfortunately you are not able to take part in this current research:

-       if you have suffered a significant head injury (one that required hospital attention), or have had a stroke or undergone an operation on your brain.
-       if you have any neurological disorder or condition such as Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease or have had Encephalitis

There are 2 links for completion

If you DO have DCD/Dyspraxia/motor difficulties please go to this link:

It should take about 20-30 minutes to complete.

Many thanks for your potential interest in this project.
