New Starts, New Challenges, and New Solutions

New Starts, New Challenges, and New Solutions

Does 2025 hold the key to successful CDM Compliance? Are we looking at changes in the CDM regulations? It is probably a bit early to surmise just yet, however, we can plan ahead and prepare. The New Year is all about new starts, new challenges, and new solutions.

The team at Ai Solutions have not been standing still; we have been busy planning ahead and can tell our customers that we will endeavour to keep our software ‘on point’ when it comes to CDM. In fact, we maintain that ‘good CDM’ is about ‘visibility and accountability’ plus 24/7 access to project related information.

Being compliant does not have to be painful. In fact, with the right tools, it can be a manageable and beneficial process for all CDM interested parties. This includes Clients, Principal Designers, Principal Contractors as well as other designers, site managers, and CDM professionals, to mention a few. Let us all start the New Year with a promise to ourselves to ‘Work Smarter not Harder!’

Health and Safety News

Building Safety Regulator – Better Building Safety?

There is much in the news about the new role of the Building Safety Regulator. With the pressure now on for those of you with High-Risk buildings it is a must to employ a competent Building Safety Regulator. The HSE are actively looking for experts in social housing, Net Zero projects or Chartered Town Planning as they wish to make a difference in building safety. Additionally, if you are interested they are asking experts in this field to join the Building Advisory Committee and lead change across the industry. If this is something you are interested in doing then find out more via the HSE Building Advisory Committee.

Cyber Security for Construction

An interesting article on Digital Construction states that the construction industry continues its ‘digital transformation’, however, some businesses must ensure they build in essential safeguards against threats. Since the turn of the decade, it has become clear that the construction sector has been viewed by many as a weak spot for cyber threats, driven by its growing reliance on digital technologies, connected systems, and complex supply chains. For more on this story visit Building Digital Vigilance.

Huge Network Rail Project Underway

The iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, of Harry Potter fame, is about to undergo a refurbishment by Network Rail. We read in Construction Buzz that work hopefully started late November / early December. The viaduct is an extremely popular tourist attraction, and it is hoped that the new fencing (part of the project) will secure the railway as well as being sympathetic to the scenic nature of the local area.

Would the 4-Day Week Work?

There is a lot of talk about the ‘four-day-week’, but can it work within construction?? We are unsure it will deliver the promised win-win in well-being and productivity as those that work within construction can state their work is entirely different to those that work in an office. You could also state the same for hospital workers and transportation – would it work? There have been some pilot companies that trialed a shorter week and data had been gathered. More trials are planned so we shall see what the numbers show in the coming months. Visit 4dayweek.co.uk for current statistics.

Skills Shortage in Construction – Gap to be Filled

To fill the gap regarding skills shortage, within construction, the government has announced that 5,000 construction apprenticeships are to be created per year. Along with this they have stated they intend to establish 32 new skills hubs for training. These apprenticeship hubs are an enabler to boost vital skills and house building and provide training via realistic environments. For five ways Contractors can bridge the Construction Skills Gap visit Construction News.
