Onboarding; the process in which new employees gain the knowledge and skills they need to become effective members of an organization:

How do you ensure a smooth and effective onboarding experience:

·??????? Plan ahead: Create a detailed onboarding plan that covers the first few weeks of the new employee's time at the company. This plan should include tasks, goals, and milestones that the new employee needs to achieve.

·??????? Access, IT and Equipment: What do they need to begin working on your site?

  • Building pass/pin numbers/keys
  • IT Equipment/phones/internal number
  • A desk and chair!
  • Log ins; email/systems/CRM's
  • Car parking
  • Any additional requirements specific to the individual

·??????? Assign a mentor: Assign a mentor or buddy to the new employee who can help them navigate the company culture, answer their questions, and provide support.

·??????? On the day:

·??????? A WARM Welcome: What does their desk look like, is it clean and tidy? Can you provide stationery, pads, a mug, a welcome to the team card? Nothing can be less welcoming than a dirty keyboard and the worst chair in the office......

·??????? Introduce the team: Introduce the new employee to the team and encourage team members to welcome them. Consider organising a team lunch or other social event to help the new employee get to know their colleagues. Organograms, health and safety and an office tour are all helpful.

·??????? Provide training: Provide the new employee with the training they need to do their job effectively. This could include software training, product training, or other job-specific training.

·??????? Set expectations: Make sure the new employee knows what is expected of them in their role. This includes setting clear goals and timelines for their work and providing regular feedback on their progress. Make time to ask them how they think it is going.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your new employees feel welcome, supported, and prepared to succeed at your company.
