When TV first came out, the quality was horrible; it was costly, and there were only a few channels with a few shows. As time marched on, this all improved.
Then, not that long ago, TV went through its next evolution with TiVo. It was new and expensive, and many people didn’t see the value in recording a television show. As time marched on, recorded TV became the standard.
Now, we’re into the next evolution of television. From Netflix to YouTube, you are in control. This is the standard, and it happened much quicker than the first two.
Media evolves as technology improves. However, the evolution of media isn’t based on the ebbs and flows of tech.
Movie lovers prefer Blu-ray over streaming as the picture and sound quality are far superior. Vinyl records are amidst a renaissance for their warmth and nostalgia.
Media reflects the expectations of the end user. Assuming the new standard is better or a replacement is risky, as there is no guarantee that it will align with our preference.
