New Staff Spotlight: Matt Renta

New Staff Spotlight: Matt Renta

Matt Renta, the newly hired customer service coordinator for the Northbrook Sports Center, says the job is a perfect fit for him and a natural extension of his career path.

Renta started his new role in late July after working as part-time customer service representative at the Leisure Center for about a month.

He is studying human resources management in an accelerated degree program at 加拿大肯高迪亚大学 . Before joining the park district, he worked in photography and videography, including using drones, for different media-based companies. He’s also been a coach for middle school girls’ basketball, volleyball and soccer, and a gymnastics coach for the Elmhurst Park District and the Park District of Franklin Park .

“I feel like when you combine all of those jobs, I found myself in human resources as far as what I want to do,” he said.

Renta has a great work ethic and an extensive understanding of customer needs, said Crystal Corral, registration supervisor for the Sports Center.

“Matt has a terrific personality and has been a great addition to our customer service team,” she said. “He has been eager to learn all the aspects of his new position at the Sports Center and has been working closely with staff to learn his new role and responsibilities.”

Renta is also a drummer and vocalist in two bands: Fiction, which plays original pop-punk and rock, primarily in small venues in Chicago; and Ladies Night, a cover band that plays all-female pop with a rock feel, typically at summer festivals. Both bands comprise the same members, all male friends from high school, including his brother-in-law.

He and his wife met when they were both on the gymnastics team in high school. “She was an all-arounder, much better than I was,” he quipped.

Renta said he looks forward to growing professionally through his role with the park district.

“It’s been great,” he said. “The training has been great and very thorough, and everybody’s been really welcoming. I have been working a lot with Roxanne Macrito and Traci Rotheiser, and they both have been very helpful. I can’t really ask for much more … I’m really happy to be here.”
