A new sculpture for Reading
A new sculpture for Reading
I bring to your attention Andrew Hood's “Face of Reading 2016” project within his residency at Reading University’s Institute of Education. The project is a study of a well-known Reading character in the form of a portrait bust carved into stone. It will be of the standard once expected of Royal Academy portrait sculptures.
Its purpose is to
Raise my profile as a leading stone portrait sculptor
Leave a lasting legacy regarding real contemporary Reading life (as opposed to yet another portrait of a famous person).
Raise funds for addressing the extraordinary levels of homelessness and begging in Reading today
Embarrass the local and national authorities
Allow public participation in the production of an important piece of art by a Reading-based sculptor.
The project is already well underway, with the subject’s likeness emerging from the practice piece block of sandstone.
The completed bust is scheduled to be exhibited in the summer of 2019 and then auctioned – the proceeds being donated to an organisation concerned with helping the homeless in Reading.
