THE NEW SAT IN A NUTSHELL! (Part 1)

1.     What is SAT?

SAT is a standardized test that is used by students to get an admission in the colleges or universities of the Unites Stated of America. It measures the skills and abilities of the students who wish to take further education in the country. It was originally designed not to match the high school curriculum of the students. But in the year of 2016, SAT has been adjusted according to the aptitude of students so that it can reflect their high school learning.

It was established in 1926 and since then its name and scoring criteria has been altered a number of times. From Scholastic Aptitude Test to SAT Reasoning test, its name has been transforming. At the present, SAT is simply known as SAT and no modification in the name has been done. It is operated, published and circulated by the College Board of the United States which a private and not-for-profit organization. On behalf of the state, it is managed and directed by the Education Testing Service.

2.     What is are the Sections of SAT and its duration?

SAT has been redesigned to be there hour long with an optional 50 minute essay test. The main components of SAT are the following:

a.      Reading Rest which is composed of 52 questions and is 65 minutes long

b.     Writing and Language Test which is composed of 44 questions and is 35 minutes long

c.      Math Test – Two Sections

a.      No calculator section which has 20 questions and is 25 minutes long

b.     Calculator section which has 38 questions and is 55 minutes long

d.     Optional essay section which is composed of 1 question and is 50 minutes long

3.     What is the Scoring for SAT?

The restructured SAT ranks the students according to the scale of 400 to 1600. A sub-score reporting criteria has also been created for every section of test which are Math, Reading, Writing and Language. Additional sub-scores are also present which enhance your knowledge on your test performance.

4.     What are the skills needed for SAT?

The New SAT examines skills according to your learning capabilities in high school which you are most likely to use in your chosen college and post-graduation. You will be tested on words that are commonly appear in high-school and college-level texts.
