New role: Energy Economist

We are seeking a full-time Energy Economist specialised in regulation and/or industrial organisation to play a key role in developing innovative energy projects across the globe. You will be working with our diverse team of international energy sector consultants and professional staff in the areas listed below.


Responsibilities:

????????????????Financial and economic business evaluation within the energy sector (with basic knowledge on the hydrogen economy and decarbonisation options, working on models in renewables, storage, hydrogen and carbon capture and utilisation).

????????????????Evaluation and assessment of energy transition processes, examination of energy supply, flexibility and energy utilisation options (including using total cost of ownership), levelised cost evaluation of energy systems and services.

????????????????Perform tariff-setting activities focused on distribution and transmission of electricity or natural gas.

????????????????Develop benchmarking studies.

????????????????Evaluate risks in power / natural gas markets and perform risk allocation analysis.

????????????????Understand energy markets, energy policies and regulatory impacts on markets with a decarbonisation agenda.

????????????????Top-down and bottom-up energy demand projections and related costs and revenues

????????????????Analyse competition issues.

????????????????Report preparation and presentation to clients.

????????????????Experience in bid preparation based on Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Expressions of Interest (EOIs).

????????????????Develop and Review reports/studies (including project reports, (pre-) feasibility studies, due diligence reports). The work will involve predominantly quantitative analysis (using spreadsheet models as well as other platforms and proprietary software) and techno-economic understanding mainly in the power sector.


Qualifications:

????????????????Advanced degree in Economics and experience in energy markets.

????????????????Relevant work experience of at least 5 years in the energy/consultancy sector.

????????????????Background in an engineering discipline (in particular, mechanical or chemical engineering) is an advantage.

????????????????Advanced IT and digital skills.

????????????????Previous experience in energy systems modelling, econometric technics and quantitative analysis is essential.

????????????????Able to manage most common statistical software packages (SPSS, Stata or SAS) and other quantitative economics tools (R, Python); experiences with systems planning and simulation tools are a strong advantage.

????????????????Fluency in English and at least one other language (European languages preferred).

????????????????Excellent report writing and public presentation skills.

????????????????Proficient in producing clear and logical written and oral communications.

????????????????Positive outlook, enjoys working with a group and can take initiative for independent tasks.

????????????????Availability and willingness to travel to international client sites.


Compensation and benefits:

????????????????Renumeration is commensurate with education and experience.

????????????????The position is based at MRC headquarters office in Madrid, Spain. You will be able to work in a hybrid format.

????????????????Holiday allowance of 23 days.

????????????????Medical and dental insurance.
